Raw Brass

In this episode, ICE horn virtuoso David Byrd-Marrow discusses his upcoming ICETank concert in Manhattan, which will feature a range of rarely-heard music for this most euphonious of instruments.

Starting with a piece for solo french horn by Jerome Naulais (of which David gives us a sample in the episode), David will then be joined by fellow horn Michael Atkinson for two duos, one by Gérard Grisey and one by Atkinson himself, before bringing in trumpets Chris Coletti and Gareth Flowers for a unique brass quartet by Iannis Xenakis. Also on the program is a new electro-acoustic piece from Flowers for horn and sampler.

Hear David chat with us about these pieces in this ICEcast, and be sure to get to The Tank on March 4 to experience the coarse beauty of raw brass.
