Carla Kihlstedt

Carla Kihlstedt Though the cornerstone of Carla Kihlstedt’s musical vocabulary comes from her background as a classically-trained violinst, her hydra-headed musical personality defiantly resists categorization in any genre. A dynamic and playful artistic sensibility have brought her from her beginnings as a viruosic young classical musician, through several major US conservatories, to her dynamic recent career as a bandleader, theater artist, indie phenomenon, and experimental composer.

Tyshawn Sorey

Tyshawn Sorey Widely considered one of the most talented and influential experimental jazz musicians of his generation, Tyshawn Sorey is a composer whose innovative work defies all boundaries. His music embraces a basic paradox in contemporary experimental music, bridging a highly technical precision with the raw, virtuosic energy of improvisation so central to his work in avant-jazz collectives such as Fieldwork and the Steve Lehman Octet.

Carlos Iturralde

Carlos Iturralde Carlos Iturralde is one of the most promising young composers to emerge from Mexico’s booming experimental music scene in many years. His music, which explores richly colorful acoustic spectra with an often violent intensity, has been performed by such leading ensembles as NEM and Klangforum Wien throughout Europe and Central and South America. This will be his first project with a North American ensemble

Lisa Coons

Lisa Coons Lisa Coons’ portfolio is diverse—ranging from chamber ensemble music to pieces for welded percussion sculptures—but two concepts remain ever-present in her work: an emphasis on sensual and emotional experience, and a focus on collaboration as a means of shaping musical language. Presently a PhD candidate at Princeton University, her portfolio includes music for acoustic and electronic instruments, turntables, traditional ensembles and custom-built sculptural objects.

Patricia Alessandrini

Patricia Alessandrini Patricia Alessandrini’s energetic, improvisatory works feature innovative uses of live electronics and interactive situations involving video and other media. Her compositions have been performed by Europe's leading ensembles, including Ensemble InterContemporain and New Millennium, and in festivals including Agora, Festival en tiempo real, and Musica Strasbourg.

Juan Pablo Carreño

Juan Pablo Carreño Colombian composer Juan Pablo Carreño is quickly emerging as a prodigious and dynamic voice from a region traditionally underrepresented in contemporary music. His varied work explores the intersections between art and politics, drawing on both the violence and the cultural vivacity of his home country.
