OpenICE at The Promontory | Untempered

  • The Promontory 5311 South Lake Park Avenue Chicago, IL, 60615 United States (map)

This unique program, titled Untempered, explores music by composers who play in the nooks and crannies of musical tuning systems. Integrating phenomenon such as beatings and pitch discrepancies inherent in instrument design, composers Larry Polansky, Peter Adriaansz, and Karola Obermueller pose an outsider lineage in modern composition, opening our awareness of the acoustic realities and necessities of music.  Chicago's The Promontory is an ideal setting for these pieces' strange, pungent resonances.
